Maine Incentives and Laws

The Maine legislature meets annually from early January to mid-April. During the session, the governor must sign or veto legislation within 10 days of transmittal (except Sundays) or it becomes law without signature. If the session adjourns before the signing deadline passes and the governor fails to act, the bill does not become law, via a pocket veto. If the legislature comes back into session, the governor has three days to veto the bill or it then becomes law without signature.
