Abstract | As hydrogen becomes commercially viable as an alternative vehicle fuel, the safety concerns associated with hydrogen systems, equipment, and operation are of concern to the commercial motor vehicle industry. This report provides a review of the existing Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations that pertain to fueling systems and considers changes that may be necessary to accommodate gaseous and liquid hydrogen. In addition, this report considers changes to the current North American Standard Inspection Procedures to accommodate gaseous and liquid hydrogen used as an alternative fuel in commercial vehicles. |
