Abstract

Commercial truck stops and interstate rest areas are full of trucks parked alongside each other, often with the engines idling to operate air conditioning, heaters, and refrigeration units. This can produce significant air pollution emissions within a confined area, with the potential for high air pollution exposures to the truck drivers who are sleeping in their cabs as well as employees of the truck stop or rest area.

This study focused on measurements of air pollutant concentrations during idling conditions both inside and outside the truck cab.
