Ethanol Feedstock Logistics

Feedstock logistics includes all the steps necessary to bring feedstocks from fields or collection areas to ethanol production plants. For agricultural and forestry feedstocks, these steps include harvesting, transportation, storage, and preprocessing.

Logistical systems have been established for the existing industry that uses starch- and sugar-based ethanol feedstocks. However, these systems are inadequate to provide cellulosic ethanol producers with a large supply of low-cost, high-quality cellulosic feedstocks while preserving soil health and food-crop viability.
