Diesel Vehicles
Advanced diesel vehicles fueled by ultra-low sulfur diesel are among the most fuel-efficient vehicles available today. Collaboration among the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, industry, and the national laboratories has improved engine efficiency, reduced emissions, and mandated the level of sulfur (15 parts per million) in diesel fuel to keep engine emission control technologies effective. Most diesel vehicles also can run on biodiesel blends without engine modification.
The annual Directions in Engine-Efficiency and Emissions Research (DEER) Conference and the Advanced Combustion Engines Progress Report highlight diesel engine R&D funded by DOE and industry.
