U.S. EPA Proposes 2013 Volume Requirements and Percentage Standards for RFS2

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a proposed rule to establish new volume requirements and associated percentage standards under the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS2) program for cellulosic biofuel, biomass-based diesel, advanced biofuel, and total renewable fuel that would apply to all gasoline and diesel produced or imported by the United States in 2013. The proposed 2013 standards are 14 million gallons (0.008%) cellulosic biofuels; 1.28 billion gallons (1.12%) biomass-based diesel, 2.75 billion gallons (1.60%) advanced biofuels; and 16.55 billion gallons (9.63%) total renewable fuels. The new standards would ensure that transportation fuel sold in the United States in 2013 contains a minimum volume of renewable fuel as required by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA). For more information, refer to the proposed rule in the Federal Register and the RFS2 website.
